Leeds Skelton Lake Services, 12-Bay High-Power eHGV Charging Hub
Detailed electrical infrastructure design for a 12-bay eHGV charging facility at Leeds Skelton Lake Services, with charging capacity of up to 350 kW per bay.
The project included multi-megawatt LV distribution, TT earthing, protection coordination, high-load AC and DC cable sizing, detailed underground duct routing and coordination of the charger power equipment.
Project-specific IEC 60287 cable calculations were undertaken to assess the thermal performance of the heavily loaded underground cable systems, including the effects of duct arrangement, grouping, spacing and ground conditions.
A detailed DC leakage assessment was also completed to verify the suitability of Schneider Type A earth-leakage protection upstream of the charging equipment. Manufacturer testing and written confirmation demonstrated that the selected devices would continue to detect AC earth-leakage faults in the presence of up to 1 A of smooth DC leakage, without being adversely affected by DC blinding.
