Specialist Electrical Design for EV Charging Infrastructure
EV Design provides independent electrical design consultancy for commercial, fleet, public sector and high-power EV charging infrastructure across the UK
A specialist EV infrastructure design brand by JBSE Consulting Engineers
Electrical Design Support for EV Charging Projects
EV Design is the specialist EV infrastructure design brand operated by JBSE Consulting Engineers Ltd. It provides focused electrical engineering support for commercial EV charging, fleet electrification, public charging, high-power DC hubs, eHGV charging and emerging megawatt charging infrastructure.
Our work focuses on the electrical systems that make EV charging projects technically robust, buildable and commercially viable. This includes site capacity assessment, DNO and iDNO application support, LV distribution design, cable sizing, protection coordination, IEC 60287 cable thermal analysis and electrical tender documentation.

Trusted project experience across the UK EV charging sector.
Jonathan has produced construction-ready electrical designs for commercial, fleet and public sector EV charging infrastructure projects across the UK, working alongside leading charge point operators, principal contractors, infrastructure providers and public sector organisations.

Specialist electrical engineering for EV infrastructure
Commercial EV charging, eHGV charging, emerging megawatt charging infrastructure and the detailed electrical engineering that underpins each project.
Engineering expertise at every stage of your EV infrastructure project.
Successful EV charging projects rely on far more than charger selection. Electrical capacity, distribution design, protection, earthing, cable routing and long-term infrastructure planning all influence whether a project can be delivered safely, efficiently and without unnecessary cost. EV Design provides the specialist electrical engineering needed to develop coordinated, construction-ready designs from feasibility through to completion.
About EV DesignTechnically Robust Design
Designs are developed in accordance with BS 7671, the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, IEC standards, DNO requirements and charging equipment manufacturer guidance, providing a coordinated and technically robust design solution.
Complete EV design support

Nationwide Consultancy
Based in Lancashire and supporting projects throughout the UK, providing electrical design consultancy for commercial, fleet, public sector and high-power EV charging infrastructure.
Part of JBSE Consulting Engineers
As part of JBSE Consulting Engineers Ltd, EV Design combines specialist EV infrastructure design with the broader capabilities of an independent M&E consultancy.
IEC 60287 cable thermal analysis for high power EV charging
Standard BS 7671 current carrying capacity tables are based on defined installation conditions. High power EV charging often involves grouped buried ducts, high continuous currents and varying ground conditions, so installation specific thermal assessment can be critical.
Installation-specific thermal modelling
We assess cable thermal performance using IEC 60287, considering installation conditions such as burial depth, soil thermal resistivity, duct configuration, cable grouping and operating temperatures.
Applied where the installation requires it
IEC 60287 analysis is used where standard cable rating methods do not adequately reflect the proposed installation, particularly for grouped buried ducts, high current circuits and thermally constrained routes.
Reduces thermal design risk
Assessing the governing installation condition helps identify thermal constraints early, supporting compliant cable selection and reducing the risk of overheating, premature cable degradation or costly redesign.
